The City of Santa Clarita aims to partner with Magic Mountain owners to keep the park running.
The city is heading in the right direction here as the theme park is a major source of employment for teens, college students and adults alike. This story appeared in The Daily News, Santa Clarita Section on July, 16, 2006.
The City Council has been in contact with Six Flags CEO and hopes to begin negotiating about the park. The City reaps the benefits as the park visitors trade with area merchants and that means tax revenue for the City.
Wendy Goldberg the park spokesperson  did state that the park does try and be an active presence in the City and she added that no time line has been set for the future of the park. She would not comment further but added “We’re not even sure if we’re definitely going to sell it”

Among the proposals the City has to entice the Six Flags Corp is to waive the utility user tax compared to the 5% tax the County imposes on the park, this could save the company thousands if not millions of dollars. The City hopes to join a coveted state program, which rewards businesses for hiring eligible employees.
Like many area resident’s who feel Magic Mountain is our landmark, we’ll be watching this story to see how it plays out. I have to applaud the City Of Santa Clarita for taking steps to keep the park open.
