Developer to unveil plans for old Smiser Mule Ranch
March 27, 2007 |
The developer of the Smiser Mule farm plans to unveil his plans for the 23 acre pasture next week. The location was home to Sam Smiser, owner of the old Smiser trucking company and famous for breeding Mules for many years the property sold a few years ago to Jay and Joyce Rodgers, whose Monteverde Development Co. will develop the location.
Billed as a “Mixed-use sort of urban village. It’s like The Grove except it has an office building, a hotel and residential units,” quoting Jeff Lambert the planning consultant for the project.
The 600,000-square-foot project would include a hotel and office building, each up to 10 stories tall, a two-story anchor store, shops, restaurants, a fitness center and 1,000 condos.
Starting the week of April 2, 2007, community stakeholders - including nearby residents - will be invited in small groups to view the preliminary plans. I’ll be posting more information on the dates and times for those meetings.
Just for fun I’ve included a couple links here, the first is for the Central Missouri State University Mascot page which mentions about Sam Smiser and “Abbedale” there is also a image link for Abbedale the mule (page 9 of the pdf doc.)and for the history buffs I’ve found a web site devoted to old trucking companies, I can remember seeing the old Smiser trucks on the highways back in the 1970’s.
