When is “enough†for development?
September 11, 2007 |
I’ve gotten a couple of comments over the last year from readers frustrated with the amount of building and development of Santa Clarita.
The City of Santa Clarita has a master plan as do the unincorporated areas, Castaic and parts of North Saugus and Canyon Country. If you ever have the opportunity to view the plans -do so. You’ll be surprised at what really is coming.
For many of us Santa Clarita Valley offered what we desired, wide open spaces.
I know it may seem odd for me to be writing about this being a Realtor; however, I also live here too!
The biggest complaint I have as a resident is I wish the commerce would stay in an area away from housing. An example of this is the new Los Valles, Hasley Canyon development coming. This is billed as luxury estate parcels with lots starting at $600,000. Lots, not homes-buy the lot then build your custom home, choose from on a set of pre-approved plans. After is all said and done you’ve got a million + dollar home, but don’t look too far down the way as you’ll bump right smack into the Valencia Commerce Park located in Castaic.
There are things you can do:
- Watch for the “notice of hearing†these signs are generally posted on the property months in advance, sometimes years.
- Talk with neighbors
- Get signatures
- Make a note of the hearing dates and try to attend
This has worked in the Castaic area 2 years ago a motel 6 had planned to come in at The Old Road and Live Oak Road, local residents scored a victory at the Castaic level and again at the County level. No go for the motel.
If you are concerned and have any comments or opinions, please feel free to jot down a quick note to me.
